Your Privacy The Information Technology Outreach Services (ITOS) Division of the University of Georgia (UGA) understands and respects your concerns about privacy. At the same time, we do ask that you provide information about yourself in order for us to understand your needs better and make your experience at our Site more valuable to you. We created this Privacy Policy to provide you with notice of what information ITOS may collect, how such information may be used or shared with third parties, and how such information relates to the operation of the Site. These guidelines have been developed with the recognition that Internet technologies are rapidly evolving, and that underlying business models are still not established. Accordingly, these guidelines are subject to change. Any such changes will be posted on this page. Therefore, we suggest that you check this page frequently because any changes will be posted here. Your use of the Site following any posted changes to the Privacy Policy will be deemed an acceptance of such changes. ITOS is not responsible for the content or the privacy policies of Web sites to which it may link. Therefore, we suggest that you check the privacy policies of those sites, so that you will be aware of their privacy policies. Children - Before sending any information about yourself over the Internet to us or anyone else, be sure to ask your parents for permission. Parents - ITOS recommends that parents take an active role in their children's use of the Internet. We encourage you to talk to your children about safe and responsible use of their personal information while using the Internet. Information We Collect ITOS is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We attempt to keep this information, except for information that is clearly denoted as study material that will be published. ITOS does reserve the right to cooperate with law enforcement inquires and other third parties to enforce laws, intellectual property and other rights when, in its sole discretion, it believes in good faith such information is required to assist such parties. At ITOS, we do not collect information for commercial marketing. General: When you register, and at other times, we will collect personally identifiable information from you that may include your name, address, zip code, phone number, e-mail address, occupation, organization, and industry. We do not, however, knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of thirteen. Surveys: We may conduct occasional online surveys. For example, when you're within our Web site, you may see a pop-up window offering you the opportunity of participating in a survey. These surveys are entirely voluntary and you may easily decline to participate. Web Site Usage Information: We automatically collect IP addresses and Web site usage information from you when you visit our Web site. This information helps us evaluate how our visitors and members use and navigate our Web sites on an aggregate basis, including the number and frequency of visitors and subscribers to each Web page, and the length of their visits. We also collect information when you voluntarily submit it to us. Throughout our site, we provide the opportunity to register to receive our newsletter, e-mail updates, alumni information, or participate in online surveys. When we collect this type of information, we will notify you as to why we are asking for the information and how the information will be used. It is completely up to you whether or not you want to provide it. How do we use this information? We analyze it to determine what is most effective about our site, to help us identify ways to improve it, and eventually, to determine how we can tailor our site to make it more effective. We do not generally seek to collect personal data through this Web site. If we do seek to collect such data, we will ask you to consent to our proposed uses of the data. Registration In order to become a member at this ITOS web site, a user must first complete the registration form. During registration a user is required to give their contact information. This information will be added to our ITOS directory. The registration process at this ITOS web site is completely voluntary. If you register as a member, we ask that you provide your name, address, zip code, phone number, e-mail address, occupation, organization name, and industry. We use this customer contact information from the registration form to enroll the user in our alumni program or to send the user our newsletter or other e-mail up-dates. Additionally, we use this information to help us better understand your needs, and to more effectively create informational databases and site materials that are of interest to you. Please be assured, ITOS will not sell, rent, or share information about you with any third party. We also collect information when you voluntarily submit it to us. What cookies are, and how ITOS uses them Like most Web sites, ITOS uses cookies to store a member's profile. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive containing information about the user. For instance, by setting a cookie on our site, the user would not have to log in a password more than once, thereby saving time while on our site. If the user rejects the cookie, they may still use our site, but access to many functions are denied. Usage Reports In order to better understand traffic patterns on any site owned and operated by ITOS, we analyze our site activity to obtain overall usage statistics. These usage statistics provide us with certain information obtained from data within the browser string (information contained in every user's browser). Information we collect from the browser string includes domain name, browser type, operating system, and MIME type. IP logs IP Addresses: The Sponsor logs IP addresses of visitors for systems administration and troubleshooting purposes. (Your IP address indicates the location of your computer on the Internet.) We do not log IP addresses to track your session, nor do we link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable. Log Files We use IP addresses to obtain metrics, analyze trends, administer the site, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. With Whom Your Information May be Shared ITOS will not sell, rent or barter your personal information other than to its advisors and partners as set forth herein. However, we may from time to time aggregate statistical information regarding our customers, traffic patterns and site usage, or sell our research, which may contain aggregate information. In addition, we may report aggregate information to our advertisers. Such aggregate information will not individually identify any user. In order to provide you with co-branded services, and to improve our features, we will sometimes share your information with our partners. We further reserve the right to release any information concerning any user if that user participates (or is reasonably suspected of participating) in any illegal activity, even without a subpoena, warrant, or other court order. We cooperate with law enforcement agencies in identifying those who may be using our servers or services for illegal activities. We also reserve the right to report any suspected illegal activity to law enforcement for investigation or prosecution. Choices Regarding the Collection, Use and Distribution of Your Data You may occasionally receive information about the services you have selected or pages that you have downloaded from the ITOS Web pages. This may include ITOS services and the products or services of our partners. ITOS believes that these updates are interesting and informative. Upon registering on the Site, you will be given an opportunity to "opt in" to receive mailings from ITOS and/or our partners by "checking" a box in the registration form. (For purposes of this Privacy Policy, "partners" include any organization which ITOS may have co-branding arrangements or some other type of alliance with.) If you submit the registration form with the box checked, you thereby consent to being placed on this mailing list. You may subsequently contact us to request to be removed from this list. In every update that we send, we will include an option to discontinue receipt of future updates. ITOS reserves the right to limit any registrations on our Site to those who will accept our information and to those who will provide the requested information. Deactivating Any user receiving our electronic newsletter or updates may opt out of our email list at any time by simply following the instructions to "Unsubscribe" within each newsletter or offering we send. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this Web site. Security This Web site takes every precaution to protect our users' information. When users submit sensitive information via the Website, your information is protected both online and off-line. We employ all the latest technology in firewalls and the servers that we store our information on are kept in a secure environment, behind a locked cage at a hosting company. Policy Modifications We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any changes here, so be sure to check back periodically. However, please be assured that if the Privacy Policy changes in the future, we will not use the personal information you have submitted to us under this Privacy Policy in a manner that is materially inconsistent with this Privacy Policy, without your prior consent. Reporting Unsolicited E-mail Despite our concerted efforts to prevent unsolicited (spam) e-mail relayed through our servers, unsolicited e-mail may sometimes get through. ITOS never sends unsolicited or spam e-mail. We view spam as a serious violation of privacy and a misuse of the Internet in general. If you receive an unsolicited e-mail with a domain of ITOS, please send it immediately to: abuse@itos.uga.edu.
