Map-based Reporting: Build Query

Using the form to write a query
Use the form to write out a query by choosing a geography in the first menu, a data item the second menu, a comparison phrase in the third menu (see below) and typing in a value. When typing in a value, do not use single or double quotation marks.

When you have completed the form, you should be able to read the form as a sentence that describes your query; for example, "Find all Manufacturers where Number of Employees is less than 2".

You can refine your query by choosing a data item and comparison phrase and supplying a value. Then choose if you want to select from the existing results or add to the existing results and click "continue query".

Your last query will be saved during a session in Map-based Reporting--even if you close the Build Query window. To run your query again, simply click on the Build Query tool again and in the window that appears, click the button "run existing query". Once you leave Map-based Reporting, your last query will be erased.

The comparison phrases in the second menu act as operators in your query. Below each comparison phrase is described and followed by an example or two.

Mapping the Query Results
By clicking the "locate checked results on map" button, you will add to the map viewer a layer containing each item in your query results list that has a checked checkbox. The layer will be named "Query Results".

You can turn the query results layer on and off in the legend by clicking the checkbox next to the layer name "Query Results". You can also remove it from the map by reloading the map (right click on the map and choose "Reload Map").

Reporting Over Query Results
You can run reports over geographies in your query results layers, just as would for Counties, Zip Codes, etc. The reports are listed below the the query results list in the Build Query window.
