Map-based Reporting: Running Reports

Getting Started
A good way to become acquainted with the map is to find the location of a place you know, such as your home or office, or a place you have heard of, such as Hartsfield International Airport. Scroll down to see specific information on the map tools.

Using the Zoom In tool, find a location. You can zoom in as much as you want, so that the map shows half a state, a county, or just the streets.

Using the Select tool, click on a county, a municipal boundary, or even the entire state. You will know the area is selected because it will darken in color. You can select more than one feature by holding down the Shift key as you click with your mouse.

Now click on the See Reports tool and follow the instructions in the window that appears.

You can also select features within other features (for example, manufacturers within a county) by using the Select Within tool.

Map Tools You'll Need to Know
Zoom In
Click this button and then click the area on the map you would like to enlarge. You can also draw a box with the Zoom In tool.

Select
Click the Select button and then click on the desired area or feature on the map. This area will appear selected by turning black. Selecting a map feature will allow you to use it in conjunction with other tools. Hold the Shift key down while selecting to select more than one item.

Once you have selected a map feature, clicking the See Reports tool will open the Reports window. Follow the instructions there in order to launch reports. Non-reportable map features are indicated in the map legend with an asterisk (*).

The Select Within tool lets you select some map features within another map feature. This tool is handy for running reports for features that are located within a geographic area (for example, manufacturers within a county).

First select a feature with the Select tool; then click the Select Within button and choose a map feature from the window that appears. For this map feature to be available in the window, it must first be present in the map legend; if it is not, you may need to zoom in.

Clear Selection
Clicking the Clear Selection tool will erase any selections you have made on the map.

Georgia 2000 Reports

TIP: You can save any Georgia 2000 report as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
  1. On the report page that comes up, go to File - Save As. You may get a message that says "This Web page may not save correctly. Would you like to save it anyway?" Click OK.

  2. In the box where you choose where to save the file, find a suitable location such as your Desktop. Where it says File name, just type in ".xls" at the end of the given name. Don't change the "Save as type" box.

  3. Open the .xls file. You may get a message saying a file is missing; just click OK. Then the report should appear in the spreadsheet.
